What is the idea?

The idea is to create a visual representation of the artificial life of the internet "organism" (i.e. the website activity) using combination of strict rules of life evolution with chaotic "mutations" caused by the randomness of a location of site visitors.

Each site visitor gives birth to a cell of some well-defined color in some well-defined place based on the visitor's geo-location. Several visitors from the same country generate "life bursts" according to the rules of an artificial evolution.

Though there is no straight relation between the location of site visitors and the visualization of the website activity, but there is an indirect coupling. The fact that several visitors come from the same place at the same time could mean that there is something interesting to the people from that place on the visited site. So, it's possible to predict that more people will come from that place (a similar priniciple is used in social networks). This is exactly the local "burst" of activity that is displayed in a form of evolving organism.

What is the goal of the site?

The site itself has no special goal. What is the goal of Life? The goal of Life is the Life itself, in my humble opinion.

What rules are used for the life evolution?

The life evolution rules used on this site are slightly modified rules of once very popular Game of Life devised by the British mathematician John Horton Conway in 1970.

Where can I read about the Game of Life?

You can read about the Game of Life on Wikipedia.

Can I play the Game of Life on this site?

Yes, I made some simple page for playing the Game of Life.

What services do you provide?

"The Internet Life" provides you two services:
  1. "Life of Your Site" visual indicator (annual or semiannual subscription) that visually represents your website activity using the artificial evolution algorithms for life simulation,
  2. advertisement of your site on the main page of "The Internet Life".

What do I get subscribing to your service?

First of all, you get the indicator showing you the visual representation of your own site activity. It could be used for your research or just for fun.
In addition your site gets some sort of advertisement in two places:
  1. links to 10 subscribed sites are displayed on the main page
  2. links to all subscribed sites are displayed on this page as long as this site exists.

How much does the subscription cost?

The subscription costs from $12 to $100 depending on the time period and the size of "The Life of Your Site".

You can see the prices in the following table:
Number of cellsPrice per yearPrice per 6 month
under 500 $20$12
500 to 999 $30$18
1000 to 1999 $40$24
2000 to 2999 $50$30
3000 to 3999 $60$35
4000 to 4999 $70$40
5000 to 5999 $80$45
6000 to 7999 $90$50
8000 to 10000$100$55

What is your refund/uptime policy?

You can request the full refund after prolonged inaccessibility (one month or more) of "The Internet Life" service only if less than 50% of your subscription period passed.

I cannot guarantee the 100% uptime of the service but each day of a downtime will result in two additional days to all current subscriptions.

Can I change the size of the Life Indicator after the payment?

There is no way to change the size of the Life Indicator after the payment by now. The main reason for it is the uncertainty with the difference between old and new subscription costs.

But I will think about the upgrade option in the future.

Can I advertize my website on "The Internet Life"?

Yes! There are four places on the main page that could be used for the advertizement of your website. You just need to register, request an advertisement of your site and pay for it.

Each place at each moment contains one advertisement only, i.e. there is no rotation between several adds. Thus, the longest period that could be requested is one day (subject for change).

What are your future plans of "The Internet Life"?

I don't want to list them all for a moment, but among them:
  • more intelligent algorithms for representation of the site activity;
  • faster refresh of the life indicator;
  • an option for visual representation of websites' sections and visitor route across them;
  • chatting between visitors cells
  • etc etc etc. :-)

What will you do with the money?

All earned money will be used for creating the "Spider Explorer" (a working prototype at least).

What is your "Spider Explorer"?

"Spider Explorer" is a 6-legged autonomous robot able to travel in unknown hazardous places (like other planets) without any human assistance. Several "Spider Explorers" are able to coordinate their movements, i.e. for building some structure.

How can I get news about your robotic project?

When enough money are earned for getting started I'll open a new site dedicated to the "Spider Explorer" project. There I plan to describe each step, providing information about the algorithms used and photos & videos of working prototype when it comes from paper to the reality.

Can I donate to the robotic project?

No, I don't accept donations.
However, you can contribute to the robotic project subscribing your site to the Internet Life service or advertising on this site.
